5 good reasons to stay hydrated in Winter
If there was ever a perfect season to water your face and body, then Winter is it!
In Summer we are around water at the beach, in the swimming pool and our own thirst drives us to drink water. In winter it can be a little different because we (well, I) tend to forget that just because the sun is not beating down on my face as warmly as it does in the summer months, this does not mean that I am not dehydrated. The body loses water in cold weather the same way that it does in warm weather, through sweating, breathing and urinating. Here are five good reasons to stay hydrated in Winter – and drink some water while you are reading this blog article too
1. Slake your thirst
When outdoor temperatures are falling and the indoor heating is going on or up, both environments challenge your hydration levels. Cold water is not as inviting as when it is 35 degrees outside, yes? But regardless of the climate, stay hydrated. Underhydration leads to aged-looking skin as well as urinary tract infections from uric acid buildup, gout and premature mental and physical fatigue.
Drink no-sugar drinks
Avoiding sugar is a no-brainer but if you do not, remember that sugary drinks can have salt in them – which make you more thirsty and under-hydrated! And no, Coke Life is not an alternative: a 375ml can contains 25g of sugar (equivalent to 6 teaspoons) which is 29 per cent of your intake! For more information read this comparison between Coke Zero and Coke Life.
Have a nice cup of warm tea
Have a nice cup of tea to hydrate (if I sound like your mother then that is because she might well be right). We recommend Rooibos tea, a South African leaf which is caffeine-free and has many health benefits:
- No caffeine – good for insomnia
- Rich in calcium, manganese and fluoride – better bone structure and stronger teeth
- Added to sweetened milk, it helps infant colic or stomach pains
- Antioxidant Quercetin found in rooibos tea, is a heart condition preventative and anti-inflammatory also
2. Even out bumps and lumps in your skin
Cellulite affects 90% of women during their adult lives, and occurs when the fat cells in a woman’s body are visible just under the surface layers of the skin, through age, or genetics, or diet/lack of exercise. Funnily enough, when you drink water it fills up the pockets under your skin and evens out the lumps and bumps that cause cellulite. It may not work in every part of the body, but as a quick-fix and lifestyle hydration practice, it is worth trying. For a longer-term solution, try You By Sia’s proven cellulite reduction program.

With a dedication to proven, effective treatments, we have spent a lot of time refining our service offering to deliver the most effective, long-term results for our valued clients.
The myth behind cellulite reduction
Cellulite is caused by compounded fat cells within the structural support layer of the skin. We know that the appearance of cellulite cannot be improved unless the fat within these cells is converted from a solid state to a liquid state. Despite an array of expensive over-the-counter creams claiming to banish cellulite, this condition is most effectively addressed at the core of the problem, not just at the symptomatic level.
How long will each treatment take?
Each treatment will take between twenty and forty minutes.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically we recommend at least ten sessions for noticeable results.
What results can I expect?
Within a few sessions you will notice lumps and bumps becoming progressively smoother. This will continue across the course of treatment. If your treatment plan is followed correctly, results should last for six to twelve months. Book Now for a complimentary consultation.
3. Minimise fine lines and dark circles around your eyes
Fine lines and dark circles around the eyes can be aided in part by drinking 6 glasses or more of water every day. Water makes the complexion more buoyant and flushes out toxins that gather in the eye sockets.
To complement this, try REVIVE, You By Sia’s dark circle eye serum, specifically formulated to increase circulation for dark circles and the reduction of fine lines around the eyes. It can also be applied to support extremely damaged skin, specifically following laser. Size: 50mL Buy Now
4. Stop crepey, wrinkly hands
Even if your hands are ageing, the use of certain skincare products will make them so much worse. Skin sanitisers and toners that use alcohol dry out your hands as much as anti-acne wash does on your face. Also the same products that work in summer do the opposite in winter, so try a good barrier cream – and make sure you drink 6 glasses of water a day to hydrate from underneath the skin also.
5. Clean and hydrate your face regularly
The truth is that there are so many fantastic supermarket skin care products in every aisle, from tea that you can drink to salts that you can soak in, but how do you know which product works on what skin condition, and how much do you use it? Start with your skin care habits.
