One of the many skin treatments we offer is skin needling. Far from being a medieval torture method, this comfortable, effective and affordable treatment is a great way to stimulate collagen production and achieve beautiful skin!
Many people are confused about skin needling – what it is, how it works, and if it’s right for them. Here’s a quick run-down that should help:
- What is skin needling?
Skin Needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, uses a device with micro-fine needles to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production for effective skin rejuvenation. This non-invasive therapy gently creates micro-incisions throughout the skin. This puts the skin into a ‘wound repair’ mode, encouraging the production of new collagen and elastin. This helps smooth out the complexion, improving the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and sagging. The results of skin needling are comparable to those of chemical peels and fractional lasers, with less recovery or downtime.
At You By Sia, our Skin Needling treatment is called Regen Pen, which works to target the skin from within. Rather than targeting the skin’s surface, the Regen Pen penetrates through and works on the deepest layer of the skin (the dermis), helping to create a new foundation that supports skin renewal.
- What does skin needling do?
Skin Needling is designed to stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen, thus promoting skin cell renewal and supporting a youthful and even complexion. By lifting, tightening, rejuvenating and resurfacing the skin, skin needling can tackle a range of skin conditions and concerns including:
- Ageing, wrinkles and fine lines
- Enlarged pores
- Acne, pimples and blackheads
- Does it hurt?
No, it doesn’t. A topical anaesthetic is applied before treatment so there is no discomfort. At You By Sia, treatment with the Regen Pen can be an effective alternative to cosmetic surgery, laser resurfacing and chemical peels. These procedures come with the risk of burning, scarring and hyperpigmentation, whereas treatment with the Regen Pen is effective, comfortable and affordable.
- Can you get away with doing it once, or is it best done over several sessions?
We recommend monthly sessions over 3 to 6 months for best results. Each session takes about 60 minutes, so it’s easy to schedule multiple treatments. After 3-5 days, skin will usually start showing signs of rejuvenation, from the reduced appearance of wrinkles to tighter pores, firmer-looking skin and all round skin luminosity.
- What should you avoid doing, during or while you’re in between skin needling sessions?
The face may appear slightly red in the two or three days following treatment, followed by slight flaking. After treatment, you should stay out of the sun to avoid UV damage. Whilst it is important to maintain a cosmeceutical grade skincare routine to ensure your outcomes are maximised, this will need to be recommended by your clinician. It is advised that you avoid applying vitamin A to the skin imminently after treatment. Similar to skin needling vitamin A also triggers collagen and elastin production and can cause an over-kill if the two are combined. It is also advised that you avoid any harsh or exfoliating ingredients post treatment as this will aggravate the skin. Lastly, I recommend only using Mineral Makeup, to let your skin breathe and help the recovery process along.
- Can people of all skin types benefit from skin needling??
Absolutely! The regen pen and other skin needling treatments are suitable for all skin types and tones. Certain skin types will need to be prepared by a professional beforehand, so I would always recommend seeking professional advice, ensuring any treatment is tailored to your skin’s specific needs.
