Do you end up grilling your skincare therapist, picking their brain every time you pop in for a facial? Since the skin is the largest organ in the body, there is an abundance of do’s and don’ts in caring for it.

Julie Lambros, Bondi-based skincare experts, shares the skin secrets she wishes all her clients knew.

  1. BE WARY OF WHO YOU SEE

Many skincare therapists will tell you that you need to extensively exfoliate the surface of the skin to remove any damage and imperfections. Very few clients realise that the abrasive treatments and chemicals in these ‘upsells’ cause trauma to their skin’s repair process, which causes premature ageing effects in the long term. It strips the skins protective layer, opening it up to UV damage. When treating the skin, your therapist should be supporting the layer of skin beneath the surface, the dermis. This way, you’re treating the cause of your concern, as well as prolonging the positive results for years to come.

  1. HEALTH IS KEY

Every day, we get told that a healthy diet and lifestyle is great for our bodies. Have you ever considered its effects on your skin? Since the skin is the largest organ in the body, many health issues or deficiencies will show here first. By loading up on greens and water, and maintaining a consistent sleep and exercise routine, your skin will remain nourished, hydrated and balanced. When you throw in a good quality active skincare routine, you’re good to glow!

  1. MAKE IT MINERAL MAKEUP

Mineral makeup is so much kinder on the skin. It lets it breathe, calms it and gives you that extra sun protection insurance. We’ve written about the differences between mineral makeup and regular makeup in a previous blog post.

  1. TAILOR YOUR SKINCARE TO YOUR SKIN

There is a tendency to assume that what works for one person will work for another. Remember, all skin types are different. Although everyone’s skin needs vitamins and hydration, some may need to manage acne, whilst others need some help with anti-ageing.   1. FORGET FACE WIPES

While they are super convenient, facial wet wipes are not a replacement for a proper cleansing routine! Many formulas are packed with harsh chemicals which are then rubbed vigorously into the skin, worse yet around your delicate eye area. Always aim to wash your face twice a day with a facial cleanser and water. Your skin will thank you for it!
